How to Append Custom Options to Existing Products on your Magento Store?

You can create custom options and add them to the products using your admin account.

You can either create custom option template if that is possible for your shop or you can create individual custom options for the various products made available on your store using this extension. You can even assign values to the various custom options together without having to put in individual efforts. You can always get a backup of your database or restore the default database using this template feature. Editing a template, creating a new template or even applying newer products to the templates is made easy with this extension. Dependencies between custom options templates and values can be created too using this feature. This feature basically helps create and add custom options extensively.

The other way of adding custom options to your existing products is using the manual mode. You will need to add the custom options one by one to the products.

How and why you want to add custom options must be decided prior to beginning the process in reality. Though you can add color, shape and other variety options using the configurable option on the Magento platform, there is a difference between custom and configurable. In the case of configurable products, you will find that the inventory is separately managed.

When you are manually adding custom options to the products, you need to follow a step by step process. You will first need to log in as the admin of the store. Next, you will need to navigate to Catalog>Manage Products. Here you can select the product to which you are planning to add the custom options. In case you want to add a new product, click on add product button on this menu. Now once you get to the product page, you will need to click on the custom options button. It is present to the left of the page. There you will see add the new option. Click on this option to set new variations to the product.

When you click on add new option, click to give the option a name. Choose a good name as it will go with the option for a long while. Select an input type here. You will find some more settings being displayed as soon as you select the input type. Once you have entered the settings based on the input type selected, click on save.

For the input type, generally price, price type and SKU options are used. You will need to carefully report them. Remember SKU option can be used to identify the product and is meant for internal use only.
